native Houstonian, Debbie grew up in the 3rd Ward area of town. She attended Mirabeau B. Lamar Senior High
School and Texas Southern University.
Debbie worked in the Oil and Gas sector for many years until discovering
her passion for real estate. In 1996 she
bid Oil and Gas a permanent goodbye and has been a force to reckon with in the
real estate arena ever since. Debbie has
experience in just about every area of the real estate business. Since the beginning of her real estate career
she has always operated under the philosophy of “Treat people like you want to
be treated”. During a stint working the
foreclosure market representing Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae she came across a
situation that touched her heart and prompted her desire to establish the Heart
2 Heart Foundation.
young mother of three had been abandoned by her husband and was facing
foreclosure of her home. Debbie’s job
was to visit the homes about to go into foreclosure and offer options to the
occupants. When she visited this
particular home she discovered the family was living in the home without
electricity and running water. One of the options available to this mother was
funds to help her relocate if she turned over the house in good condition and
clean. Unfortunately, the young mother could not clean the house without water
or electricity and therefore could not take advantage of the relocation
funds. Seeing this abandoned mother and
children living in these conditions and with no money for basic utilities
touched Debbie’s heart. She made
arrangements with the utility companies to turn on the electricity and water
and paid out of her own pocket. The
young family was able to clean the house and turn it over in good
condition. They received the relocation
package which helped them find a new place to live. The young mother called Debbie her
vision for a non-profit organization to assist families and/or individuals in
need was born. From a young age, Debbie
was taught to help those that are less fortunate. She believes that we are not on this earth
for ourselves, but to help others.
Debbie saw the need for a foundation to assist people with a true
need in things such as (paying utility bills, buying groceries, paying
rent, etc.) without all the red tape.
